European Research Technology Development Evaluation Network
The European Research Technology Development Evaluation Network is the working group co-operating with the Evaluation Unit, Directorate General Research of the European Commission. The Network classificates science and research and is formed by experts with different programmes, consisting of one from each EU member nation and from candidates countries which were invited to participate.

Accessing information sources project for academic institutes, public universities and the Academy of Sciences makes it possible for them to use the electronic information source PROQUEST 5000 and other important discipline databases, such as AGRICOLA plus text, ERIC plus text and MEDLINE with full text until the end of year 2003.
EVENTS
European Research Forum
The European Research Forum, which was organised by French Embassy in Budapest in collaboration with the Hungarian Ministry for Education, was held 25.4.-26.4.2002 at the Congress Centre in Budapest. Assistance made it possible for researchers to participate in projects of the EU's Sixth Frame Programme for research and technological development.

EMBO Workshop
The Department of Cell Biology of the Institute of Experimental Medicine, ASCR, and the Laboratory of Gene Expression at the First Faculty of Medicine CHU sponsored anEMBO Workshop on the theme Functional Arrangement of the Cell Nucleus.
Collection of Aquatic and Wetland Plants of the Czech Republic
A collection of Aquatic and Wetland Plants of the Czech Republic (CAWP) in the Section of Plant Ecology of the Institute of Botany, ASCR, at Třeboň was inaugurated as a collection of Czechoslovak aquatic higher plant species in 1976.
Although the CAWP is not open as a botanical garden, for practical reasons, the Section's purpose is to make the Collection accessible to as many specialists and students as possible. Every year, the Section's graduate staff guides dozens of school excursions through the CAWP, including primary school pupils, inland and foreign university students and staff, and participants of the UNESCO Training Course on Limnology. Moreover, the CAWP serves as a gene pool for rare and endangered species, provides plant material for experiments and studies, comparative material for classification and botanical illustrations, and is used for teaching botany and plant ecology.

From Gothic to Renaissance
During an interview, Professor Ivo Hlobil introduced a luxury catalogue published on the occasion of an extensive exhibition entitled, " From Gothic to Renaissance - Moravian and Silesian Art Culture in 1400 -1550.
WOMEN IN PHYSICS
Four scientists from the Czech Republic were in Paris, 7-9 March 2002, with more than 300 physicists invited from 65 countries to attend the International Conference on Women in Physics. The team was lead by Dr. Raji Heyrovská from the J. Heyrovsky Institute of Physical Chemistry.

Alessandro Ferrara Honored
Alessandro Ferrara, professor of political philosophy and sociology at universities in Parma and Rome in Italy, was honoured with the František Palacký Honour Medal for his significant work in the field of social sciences.

B. J. Horáček Foundation
Founder B. J. Horáček personally presented to 26 students the Praemium Bohemiae Award for Science for their extra study efforts and their successful role in the national and international science Olympiad at Sychrov Castle.
