The 40th anniversary of the death of Philosophical Faculty student Jan Palach who set himself on fire to protest the Soviet occupation of Czechoslovakia on January 16, 1969 was observed in Prague. Palach could not accept the Warsaw Pact invasion of Czechoslovakia in August 21, 1968, and he took part in a few events to demonstrate against the political development in our country at the time. The funeral of Palach turned into a major protest the occupation, and a month later another student, Jan Zajíc, burned himself to death in the same place, followed in April 1969 by Evžen Plocek in Jihlava.
