‘The way of the labyrinth’: Why are so few women in science?
A Conference for Women in Science took place at the Chamber of Deputies of the Czech Republic where 130 delegates of the ‘gentle sex’ discussed why so few women are attracted to science.

SCIENCE AND RESEARCH

Rationality and procedure
Experts from Central Europe met in Prague at an international conference to consider questions and concerns under the theme ‘Rationality’. The Institute of Philosophy of the ASCR coordinated this event.

Gratias Agit 2005
Gratias Agit is an award to personages and organisations who have contributed significantly to the presentation of the Czech Republic abroad and given by Minister of Foreign Affairs Cyril Svoboda. The ceremony took place at the Czernin Palace. On this occasion one of the honourees, Prof. František Makeš, an internationally known restorer and scientist, was interviewed.

Knowledge from outside should be brought back
Members of the Institute of Animal Physiology and Genetics met in Liběchov on 27th September 2005 and during this occasion we did an interview with Prof. Martin Maršala of Košice and San Diego about his work and plans in Czech Republic.

Prof. Armin Delong, the founder of electron microscopy, was awarded The National Prize of Government of the Czech Republic ‘Czech Head for 2005’ on 5 October 2005.

Beginnings of the Czech nation
An international conference focussing on the cult of saints in the Middle Ages took place at Teplá Monastery on 8–10 October 2005. An Academy Bulletin writer interviewed PhDr. Dušan Třeštík, a specialist in history, who lectured on Saint Václav and Saint Ludmila.
