The Slovak Academy of Sciences has published its first comprehensive and synthesised study of significant Slovak scientific achievements. Titled The Slovak Academy of Sciences, it was written by an eminent historian Dušan Kováč (eds.). It maps important events from the first half of the 18th century to the present. It describes not only the Academy’s successes but also problems during totalitarian regimes and important historical documents. Dušan Kováč presented the book during ceremony October 14, 2014 at Villa Lanna in Prague. Present were the Slovak Ambassador Peter Weiss and ASCR President Jiří Drahoš and a former president Václav Pačes. Slovak Academy President Jaromír Pastorek was unable to participate due to budget negotiations. The Slovak Academy of Sciences anticipates an 17 percent budget reduction for next year, according to the Finance Ministry.
