A small celebration at Villa Lanna in Prague

One of the architectural jewels of the Academy of Sciences of the Czech Republic in Prague is its Villa Lanna. The Editorial Staff of Academic bulletin decided it deserved recognition with a supplement the Academy’s official magazine, enclosed with the last issue. The Staff is indebted to Prof. Jan Bažant who kindly wrote the historical and artistic aspects of this magnificent edifice. On 8 October 2013, the Editorial Staff arranged a small celebration during which Professor Bažant guided a group on a tour through this outstanding Neo-Renaissance villa.

The Travens Salon refers to the ancestral roots of the famous industrialist family of Mr. Lanna.

The presence of a great grandson of Adalbert Lanna, General Horatius Trauttenberg and Ambassador Ferdinand Trauttmansdorff of Austria brought an aura of authenticity to the occasion. Present as well were the vice presidents of the ASCR, Prof. Vladimír Mareček and Prof. Pavel Baran. In his opening speech, Professor Baran observed that supplement with the Academy’s magazine of this conference and lodging site has been long overdue.

General Trauttenberg reminded the group that Vojtěch Lanna was one of the most important entrepreneurs and collectors of art objects in the former Austro-Hungarian Empire.

During the celebration, General Trauttenberg introduced a catalog dedicated to the exhibition entitled “Not worth living,” dedicated to the so-called Nazi “euthanasia” and its implementation in the Reich District of Sudetenland and the Protectorate of Bohemia and Moravia. The Institute of Contemporary of History ASCR was also participated in that project. (In the photo, Prof. Bažant in discussion with Antonín Kostlán of the Institute of Contemporary of History ASCR)
