EVENTS

Brain Research Forum in Prague

The 6th IBRO World Congress of Neuroscience, which was organized and hosted by the Institute of Experimental Medicine ASCR in collaboration with the Czech Society for Neuroscience was held at the Congress Centre in Prague in July 2003. About 3000 experts from 65 countries were able to participate in another three satellite symposiums. Prof. Eva Syková pointed out that Czech scientists have succeeded in establishing a new, unique line of embryonic stem cells.

Josef Dobrovský – Petr Pithart’s speech

Petr Pithart, head of Senate, presented an address on the 250th. anniversary of J. Dobrovský birth and his role in Czech history at an international conference held in the National Museum in Prague on 10 August 2003.

New pavilion of Institute of Animal Physiology and Genetics ASCR has been opened
In the ASCR complex in Krč on 25 June 2003. It includes large, modern laboratories, which help increase the quality and amount scientific results.

The main topic of the international Forum of Biotechnology held in Washington in June 2003 was how to treat illnesses and how to save our living environment and the development of the pharmacogenomics.

At the beginning of July an international conference in Prague titled Women Researchers and Institutions had a very interesting and simple theme: Very few women occupy high positions in their professions.

August Sedláček – 1843–1926

The 160th birth anniversary of August Sedláček, a leading historian of the Czech aristocracy and their residences and who devoted his work also to the history of castles, has been observed. He contributed significantly to the famous Otto Encyclopedia.
