RESUMÉ

EVENT
The Most Colorful Week of Science 2006

Week of Science 2006, organized by the Academy of Sciences and its partners in the second week in November attracted many people to the main building of the Academy on Národní Street in Prague. This year’s program was the most plentiful and colorful. Students and other people came to take part in lectures, round table discussions, various types of exhibitions, literary coffee house. Hundreds of others visited individual institutes of the Czech Academy of Sciences, which has opened their doors to the general public.

EVENT OF THE MONTH
The topic How to evaluate the quality is already resolved from 17th century

To decide the awarding of monies for research, by reviewing bodies to evaluate the quality of research institutions and by publishers, to select and to screen submitted manuscripts, that was the main topic of the conference Peer Review – Its Present and Future State that took place on 12–13 October 2006 in Prague. Peer review is a method used only since the middle of the twentieth century.
Academic bulletin did interview about these conference with prof. Josef Syka, president of the Czech Science Foundation (GA ČR).

SCIENCE AND RESEARCH
Mendel Forum 2006 in Brno

Mendel Forum 2006 belongs to the conference cycle called Mendel Forum organized by Mendelianum MZM Brno. Seminars and lectures are dedicated mainly to teachers on secondary schools, students and specialists who are interested in biology.

CERGE-EI is proud to announce that it hosted for the first time the The European Association of Labour Economists Conference 2006 on September 22–23, 2006. The event brought together top European labour economists as well as prominent US researchers. EALE has more than 425 members from 25 countries. Membership is open to both individuals and institutions.

The specific programme on Cooperation supports all types of research activities carried out by different research bodies in trans-national cooperation and aims to gain or consolidate leadership in key scientific and technology areas. Energy, with the focus placed on renewable energy sources and a significant lowering of CO2 emissions; Environment (including climate change) dealing with ways to predict climate change and the development of novel approaches towards earth observation; Transport (including aeronautics) developing environmentally-friendly and efficient pan-European transport systems.
